This is a big day! Today is the third day in the Zhan Zhuang training course and there is a lot to learn today.
We will start with the warm ups…
Today in the warm ups you start to practice a very famous set of qigong excercises call Baduanjin or sometimes translated as Eight Pieces of the Brocade. This is an excellent set of qigong exercises that is attributed to a semi legendary general by the name of Yue Fei. It is said that general Yue Fei taught these to his men to help keep them strong and well prepared for battle.
Even if you do not plan on going in to battle these exercises are an excellent practice to pick up because of their health/medical benefits which this form is mainly used for in China today.
Also in Day 3 you will learn the 2nd posture which is sometimes called “standing like a tree” and this posture is probably the most infamous of all standing meditation postures.
Don’t forget to do the cool down also…enjoy!
Here are the tips that come with the video:
• Each position is a progression from the last, so work up to about 20 minutes in each posture before moving onto the next.
• Make sure to warm up before, and relax after, each exercise.
• When your stamina has improved, try standing for 5 minutes each in all 5 positions. It’s hard work, so please be patient and do stop if you feel faint or too hot!
