Day 6…wow! You are now more then half way through this course on Zhan Zhuang. Again today you will be doing a warm up, standing, and cool down, Hopefully you are seeing some progress in your practice. Have it be either a sense of more energy or calmness or even a sense of balance.
The Baduanjin warm up for day 6 is called “Wise owl gazes backwards”…aren’t these great names? This postures as a powerful effect on your central nervous system. The twisting also stimulates the kidney’s while also strengthening the eyes, neck, and shoulder muscles. This exercise has been used to alleviate high blood pressure along with hardening of the arteries.
The standing posture for today is the same as the last one. Today you just build on what you have learned in the previous lession with the third posture. Again this posture can be difficult for some…take it slow. Today’s Baduanjin should help lossen up the shoulder and neck which will in turn help this posture.
Don’t for get to practice the cool down today its a new one…plus it’s all part of the set!
Here are the tips with the video:
• Each position is a progression from the last, so work up to about 20 minutes in each posture before moving onto the next.
• Make sure to warm up before, and relax after, each exercise.
• When your stamina has improved, try standing for 5 minutes each in all 5 positions. It’s hard work, so please be patient and do stop if you feel faint or too hot!
